Possession or ownership can be shown by using different parts of speech as follows;

a)    Nouns: We can show ownership by using a noun with an apostrophe as shown in the sentences below.

ü This is Mabondo’s car

ü Teachers’ association plays a vital role in promoting peace

ü Juliette is one among the Atangana’s children

b)   Adjectives: Possessive adjectives include my, our, his, her, your, its, theirs.

ü I saw your daughter yesterday

ü She is my wife

ü The dog twisted its tail

ü His house is painted white

ü Our English teacher teaches well

c)    Pronouns: Possessive pronouns include mine, yours, his, ours, hers, theirs and its.

ü He came with a tax. The tax is mine.

ü If you want money, you must find yours.

ü My school performs well than his.

ü Ours looks better than theirs.

ü After using my pen, she decided to buy hers.

d)   Verbs: Possessive verbs include have, own, possess and belong.

e)    Prepositions: Possessive prepositions include of and with.
